Brook Cottage is ideally located at the end of a private lane on a spacious and partially fenced property walking distance to the center of Woodstock. This newly renovated classic Woodstock artist’s cottage features 2-story north light windows, cathedral ceilings and skylights, and a gas-fueled fireplace with an exposed stone chimney in the great room. On the south (sunny) side of the cottage there’s a second sitting area with a gas-fueled cast-iron fire stove, flat-screen TV, and 2 sets of French doors that open onto a blue stone patio and spacious lawn next to Tannery Brook, a year-round stream that flows through the back of the property and right past the house! The master bedroom is on the second floor in a loft space with an interior balcony that overlooks the great room. It features a sitting area, skylights, and queen bed under a large triangular-shaped window facing the stream. In addition, there’s a second bedroom on the first floor with a full bed. The fully-equipped kitchen is newly remodeled with marble countertops and new appliances. Amenities include AC, skylights, ceiling fans, WIFI, cable TV, DVD player, dishwasher, washer/dryer, gas grill, outdoor seating, and private parking.

Comfy 1800’s Cabin

This is actually a guest house that was an original 1800’s cabin that the owner came upon as driving home from the city. Guess the cabin was going to be torn down by the city and removed from its location so they could expand the freeway. The owner talked to the local officials and found out that the cabin was to be removed and condemned, but if he wanted it he could have it if he did all the work in removing the structure. Not only did he remove it, but he rebuilt it one log at time on his property in the country. He also found out from some of the old timers in the area that back in the day the cabin was owned by a pioneer family of ten. Yes ten people living in an eight hundred square foot cabin. No wonder the family had eight children. I guess it would be pretty hard not to bump into your wife from time to time in such a small space.Being that the cabin was only eight hundred square feet it posed a real problem for shooting. Tight spaces as this one are very hard to find just the right composition as well places to hide your lights. The cabin was extremely dark and needed lot of lights to bring out the details. I went with hot lights and did all of the shooting in the evening and in the morning.

One would think with such a small space that you would not need a ton of time to complete the shoot, but this was the reverse. It took a total of about nine hours to complete the shoot. One other note of interest. When I arrived at the house the rain was coming down in sheets. So the exteriors had to wait to the following day which brought the sun out for about an hour before if started to come down again. The great thing about the shoot is that the homeowners were kind enough to offer the cabin to me for my lodging. I spent two nights there. I now have just one more incredible story from my photography travels!

Bay Lake Lodge | A&H Architecture

This historic 1930s lodge on a private peninsula needed a complete restoration: the casements had been chewed from within by trapped squirrels, snow blew in through gaps between the logs, and there was 15 inches of water in the basement.

The client’s goals were to preserve the character of the lodge, modernize the layout, improve the natural lighting, and create an effective building envelope. To bring in more natural light and improve lake views,

Albertsson Hansen added a large dormer and several new windows, each replicated by a custom mill-work company to match the original 1930’s window in every detail.
