A Florida family who decided to downsize after the financial crash have proved a little space can go a long way – even when raising two young children.
When Hari and Karl Berzins lost their home and restaurant business in 2008 they vowed never to use credit again – even when building their new house.
The couple used their limited savings to buy a plot of land in Virginia in 2011, and have built an adorable 168 sq. ft. home to share with their children Archer and Ella, and a large dog.
‘Coffee to go’ has a whole new meaning for JR Harrell and Natalie Taylor, founders of Camptime Coffee Company. You may see these guys rollin’ around Denver and the surrounding areas in their little coffee cart- completely powered by the sun.
Their coffee cart is 100% powered by Goal Zero. Their gear consists of 4 solar panels, the Escape 150, and 4 Guide 10 Plus battery packs which they use to light their cart, power their iPhones, iPads, and speakers. Behind the scenes founder JR is equipped with a Yeti 1250 Solar Generator in case of an emergency. He runs a design company as well (drawnn.com) that will now, just like the Camptime Coffee, never be powerless.

This is a preliminary rendering for our latest plan design for Texas Tiny Homes, which is not quite finish, but we’re getting close. The new plan is actually an expanded version of our Plan 783, but will be a little larger and provides a few more amenities and features. This plan features a spiral staircase leading up to a really good size loft area, which has its own private bathroom and walk-in closest, making it an ideal guest suite, or a second master. The master bedroom is located down stairs, as it is in Plan 783.
The plan also offers a nice dining area at the back of the kitchen, which Plan 783 does not have, and it also features an exterior door leading out to the large rear covered patio, which could be easily screened in during construction, that could be up to you!

This charming old tiny home is located in Lake City, Colorado, where I’m at for a few months working on new plan designs for Texas Tiny Homes. There’s a lot of inspiration here in this old mining town, which is completely surrounded by 14,000 ft. mountains. The historic downtown has quite a few old buildings, and homes that feature unique design elements I hope will influence some of the new plans I’m working on.
Lake City is a very popular vacation town for Texan’s, who bring their families here during the summer months to enjoy everything the great historic town offers. I’m thinking it might be an ideal place to build a model home for Texas Tiny Homes, and am looking at available lots, and considering the possibilities.
