Name: Natalie Pollard, owner of Villagers, and cat Melon Location: Candler, North Carolina Size: 265 square feet Years lived in: 6 months Natalie’s home may only be eight feet wide, but it is packed with inspiring design details and unexpected features for a tiny home including a large side entrance, a central bedroom loft, and the creative use of heirloom furniture pieces to contribute to that familiar feeling of home. She worked with the designers at Nanostead to create the 265 square foot portable home with the features that were important to her—mostly lots of windows for natural light—and the result is one of the sweetest small homes you will ever see.13 natalie's house tour_IMG_166605 natalie's tiny home_IMG_140114 natalie's house tour_IMG_167809 kitty_IMG_166927 natalie's house tour_IMG_156931 natalie's house tour_IMG_162912 natalie's house tour_IMG_165408b natalie's house tour_IMG_1798

A DIY Self-Sustainable Micro-Cabin in California

Cabin in the woods, tiny homes, small cabins, mountain life, off grid living

Tim Eddy and Hannah Fuller: Tahoe, California Size: 196 square feet Years lived in: 1.5 years; Owned Hannah grew up in a home her parents built (her father is a boat builder), so it was only natural for her to follow in their footsteps. Tim, on the other hand, has never built anything but fires. With that in mind, Tim and Hannah started out with 20 acres of land and no blueprints, and built one of the most impressive houses I've ever seen in my life — not to mention it's fully off-the-grid.

Rustic-modern barn in the Swan Mountain Range

This striking old timber frame rustic-modern barn is built from the reclaimed wood of older structures by RMT Architecture near the Swan Mountain Range in Montana. The barn was only built a year and a half ago and incorporates state-of-the-art mechanical features, but it was built almost entirely out of reclaimed wood from barns, sawmills and other buildings in rural Montana, all of it decades old. The family was building a primary residence nearby, but wished to build a separate structure for entertaining and recreational activities down by the spring-fed lake. It’s only 850 square feet inside and has no bedrooms, but the simple design has room for a small kitchen, a bar, a gathering area centered around a majestic fireplace, a pool and foosball table, and, in the loft, a long shuffleboard table. The finishing result of the project was a family friendly modern barn that’s true to Montana’s history and heritage.
